Déja vú: recurrence of nightmare injury for Cork's David Meyler: |
Having recently returned from an anterior cruciate knee ligament (ACL) injury, it is with regret I announce that it has been confirmed that Cork's David Meyler has suffered a recurrence of the injury whilst playing for Sunderland in Wednesday's Premier League match at Aston Villa. As a sufferer of some serious injuries myself, I would like to extend my sympathies to the Rochestown native, who looks set to miss the next six months, having just returned from a 10 month lay-off.
The 21-year-old son of Cork hurling legend John Meyler has vowed not to feel sorry for himself and has stated on his Twitter page: "I'll be back, don't you worry."

Meyler in his Cork City days: |
The former Cork City player looked set to be a regular in the Sunderland first team, having shown remarkable levels of work-rate and athleticism. He'll need both those qualities in abundance to come back from this latest setback. He was just seven games back after his initial lengthy lay off when he suffered the now confirmed recurrence of the ACL injury, during the first half of Wednesday night's match at Villa Park after what looked an innocuous incident. We wish him a full and speedy recovery.
