NO TEARS:   Rory McIroy after devastating final round 80 at Augusta

At the start of today's US Masters final round at Augusta;  I was happily writing an article on what I thought would be detailing the first U.S. Masters win for an Irishman at Augusta.  That Irishman was 21 year old Rory McIlory.  As we all know now; having led for 63 holes on this toughest of tough courses; the pressure got to the young man and a four stroke overnight lead was swallowed up by the chasing pack.  One fact from above needs to be remembered; Rory is only 21 years old.  Yes; the pressure got to him - it was clear to see from his body language.  However, the pressure of leading such an event would get to 90% of veteran golfers with a  career of Major appearances; let alone a comparative novice who is barely out of his teens.  

I would like to congratulate Rory on his performance on the course this week (for 63 holes at least) and; probably more importantly; off the course at the end of his devastating final round.   Rory spoke to the cameras some ten minutes after Tiger Woods addressed the World's media.  Whilst Woods was churlish and moody; Rory came across as most pleasant, pragmatic and honest.  There were no histrionics, no tantrums and Rory fielded each and every question before elaborating eloquently with his replies, eventhough I'm sure he felt like crying inside.  In fact; I'm quite sure that Rory did cry in the privacy of the locker room afterwards.  The so called 'greats' could learn a thing or two from Rory McIroy.

        I'd like to finish with Rory McIlroy's words to eventual Masters (and maiden Major Title) winner; South African native Charl Schwartzel:  "Congratulations Charl Schwartzel!! Great player and even better guy! Very happy for him and his family!"
