PRIZEFIGHTER KING: Mike 'The Rebel' Perez |
"He was delighted to see so many people from Cork in London. Mike hopes to get a World Title fight against either David Haye or Wladimir Klitshko before the end of the year,"
- Coach Patrick Thomas
Cork-based Cuban southpaw Mike 'The Rebel' Perez is on course for a World Title shot after producing a tour de force to claim the Prizefighter International Heavyweight crown in London on Saturday night.
The 25-year-old, who boxes out of the Watergrasshill BC on Leeside under Patrick Thomas, beat Kerston Manswell, Gregory Tony and Tye Fields to pocket £32,000 sterling from Saturday's one-night dust-up at the Alexandra Palace.
Fields lasted less than a minute in the final and was taken into protective custody by the ref after 42 seconds after being battered into submission by the ex-AIBA World Junior Champ.
Perez's semi-final against French champion Tony was stopped after 54 seconds while he dropped Manswell in the first to win the quarter-final on a unanimous points decision.
Saturday's hat-trick stretches his record to 16 wins - 12 of which have been KO's.
