Avondale United celebrate FAI Intermediate Cup Final win
'Twas a fantastic weekend for Rebel sport as Cork came to the 'four' yet again nationally and internationally proving Leeside is the home of Irish sport.
Rebeletes: League Champs
Avondale United won the UMBRO FAI Intermediate Cup for the fourth time.  They defeated Dublin's Cherry Orchard 1-0 courtesy of a magnificent extra-time strike from former Cork City stalwart Colin P. O'Brien at Turners Cross.  The Cork ladies' footballers showed their class with a fourth successive league crown at the expense of Laois.
CHAMPION JOCKEY:  Paul Townsend
WINNER IN SPAIN:    Billy Twomey
It was an incredible sixth league title in seven years for the Rebelletes.  In horse racing; Paul Townsend was crowned Ireland's new National Hunt champion jockey.  Townsend stepped into the void left by Ruby Walsh, when he broke his leg in November, with a series of big winners.
And show jumper Billy Twomey won the first Global Champions Tour Grand Prix at Valencia, Spain, on Saturday with a sparkling performance over three rounds on Je t'Aime Flamenco.
All in all; another amazing weekend for Rebel sport.  Who would bet against there being more to follow this coming summer?
