Ireland's most prestigious intervarsity tournament to be played on new state-of-the-art 3G surface:

University College Cork celebrate winning 2011 Collingwood Cup
            Coming clost to its centenary; Ireland's most prestigious intervarsity soccer tournament; the Collingwood Cup is to be played on a new 3G surface.  First played for in 1914 and one of football's oldest tournaments, University of Limerick will break new ground when the tournament is hosted there next February.
             UL are hoping to host all of the games on their two newly laid FIFA approved 3G full sized football pitches on the campus.  The 12 team tournament is set to take place from 20th February 2012 with the final taking place four days later at Limerick's new Markets Field Stadium.
             Missing from the tournament will be the University of Ulster Magee College who are serving a ban after pulling out on the eve of the 2011 tournament hosted by Dublin University and won by University College Cork.  Irish Universities chairman Tom McAuley has said that he is pleased that UL is able to take the tournament into the 21st century and to provide such provide such fantastic facilities for all competitiors across a plethora of sports.
