Tonight at the Savoy Cinema on Dublin's O' Connell Street heralds the first showing in Ireland; and indeed the European Premiere of: "Killing Bono." While this event is not sports connected; it is an event which is about someone (i.e. Bono) who is very close to my heart.
"Killing Bono" is a comedy based on the true story of Neil and Ivan McCormick, two Irish brothers who attempt to become rock stars but can only look on as their secondary school friends (the members of U2: Larry Mullen, Adam Clayton, Bono and Edge) become the biggest rock band in the World. The film features Pete Postlethwaite in his final film role.
The title of the film was originally set to be "I was Bono's Doppelgänger." Bono however, read the script and immediately phoned Neil McCormick to state: "You need to change the title to 'Killing Bono'; you wanted to kill me like!"
