Disappointment that apology won't fix: Katie Taylor
Katie Taylor's coach revealed that the Bulgarian boxer who "beat" her on Saturday apologised after she was adjudged to have "won" the fight.
The Bray woman was favourite for the lightweight final against Denica Eliseeva at the Strandja Multi-Nations in Pazardjik, Bulgaria, however, was only awarded one point throughout the entire fight to leave her camp furious.
Taylor was adjudged to have been beaten 5-1, a result which her coach and dad Peter Taylor and Irish coach Pat Ryan described as shocking. Ryan was also working Taylor's corner and said that the Bray woman dominated the four rounds and clearly won.
Happier times for Katie: World Amateaur Boxing Champion
"In fairness to the Bulgarian girl, she apologised to Katie because of the result after the final -- she showed her sportsmanship which is always good," said Ryan. Peter Taylor said that they were shocked by the decision, adding that his daughter was devastated after dominating the final.
Taylor, the current World, European and EU champion and 2010 AIBA World boxer of the year, beat Eliseeva 16-1 in the 2010 European Union Final in Hungary.
