The Chairman doesn't know his name, the manager doesn't know his name but earlier this year a mystery man invested a six-figure sum into Glentoran F.C. to save the club from extinction. Only a handful of people know who bailed out Northern Ireland's oldest club. When the mystery man bailed out the club, his demands were simple:  New members would be added to the board to ensure his money would be invested wisely and his identity would remain unknown.
New Glens' Chairman:  Terrence Brannigan

"It's a heavy burden to carry if you know the identity of the man who saved the club" - Terrence Brannigan

Even the new Chairman (Terrence Brannigan) remains in the dark. "It's a heavy burden to carry if you know the identity of the man who saved the club. I'd like to say clearly; 'if you don't know, you can't tell. If it ever does get out some day who it was that invested the money, then at least I can't be pointed to, because I just don't know who it was." Manager Scott Young makes his position clear: "There's a select few people who know who invested the money and his or her identity will never, ever be revealed. The strangest rumour I have heard is that it was Van Morisson and Frank Carson and I had to laugh at both suggestions!" The club along with the famous Harlington Wolf Cranes have formed an integral part of the East Belfast working-class community for generations and that's still the case thanks to the genorosity of, well, who knows?

Glentoran's saviour will remain unknown
"To lose what is a significant community asset in the east of our main city would be extremely sad. If I have played a part in preserving that asset then I'm content and wish neither recognition nor recompense"

Glentoran's mystery man is well aware of the history of the club. In this message which he made public he states: "To lose what is a significant community asset in the east of our main city would be extremely sad. If I have played a part in preserving that asset then I'm content and wish neither recognition nor recompense" - I think it says it all says the new Chairman with a tear in his eye. Looks like there are still good guys left in a football world gone mad.
