University College Cork's landmark Mardyke Arena sports complex is set for a multi-million euro facelift.
Work will start towards the end of February 2011 in a three-phase development which will last three years. There will be circa 40,000 square feet extra added to the facility. General Manager of the Mardyke Arena, Patsy Ryan said that on completion, the UCC Mardyke Arena would be a truly world class sports facility and would be the envy of cities not just in Ireland but world wide.
"We will have a world class facility here this time next year when all the work is done and there will be nothing like it, or to compare to it anywhere in the country when we are finished the project.
I have seen sports facilities all over the world in universities and there's nothing to compare to what will be here in 12 months time."
