Cork's Republic of Ireland senior international Damien Delaney played a starring defensive role for Ipswich Town as he repelled everything that Arsenal threw at the Tractor Boys and Ipswich held on to win 1-0 in the first leg of the League Cup semi-final last night. One can't help wondering if Ipswich's upturn in fortunes is anything to do with Roy Keane's departure. In the two seasons that followed
Is Ipswich upsurge connected to Keane departure?
Keane leaving Manchester United, "The Red Devils" won two Premier League Titles (2006-'07 and 2007-'08) and a Champions League Crown (2008). All the Manchester United players Keane had criticized previously, were stars of those successes. In the two years plus since he left Sunderland, they have established themselves firmly as a Top 10 (even Europe chasing) Premier League club, however when Keane was boss of "The Black Cats", they were in the relegation zone and struggling for survival. Now Ipswich have had an upsuge in fortunes shortly after Keane departing. Is it a coincidence that whenever Roy Keane leaves a football club, the club becomes more successful and stable than when Roy Keane was there?
