Police investigate unprovoked punch:

Manager Westley checks on his assaulted player
Stevenage beat Newcastle United 3-1 in an FA Cup shock last night, but in a sad end, there was a pitch invasion and Stevenage left-back Scott Laird was punched forcefully in the face and knocked to the ground.
Stevenage manager Graham Westley confirmed what happened at the final whistle:
"Scott Laird was stood celebrating with the fans and a 'fan' just came over and smashed him from the side. He went to the ground and it is a shame for the afternoon to end in that way.
"He is a bit bewildered. He (the fan) gave him a right-hander, just smashed him across the cheek, knocking him to the ground."
Hopefully the "fan" who punched Scott Ledd will be caught, severely reprimanded and never enter a football stadium again.

Joey Barton: in headlines for good reasons for once

Newcastle's Joey Barton was in headlines for all the right reasons after Premier League Newcastle surprisingly lost to the League Two side, as he went around to all the Stevenage players after the match to shake hands witheach and every one of them.
